March 23, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Just watched the sun go down and it was a beautiful sunset. The mountain which makes one edge of the horizon is still snow capped and the red glow on that snow made quite a sight. Over here you have to look for those things so you dont see the dirt. We now have another window in our house, all winter we left two sides of our tent down so it would be warmer but now as the weather has grown milder we rolled them up and its surprising how much lighter it is. Have three distinct types on in which two panes slide in slats another which is hinged in the middle and tilts and the third is a swinging french door type. Each one was devised to use the material at hand and thru no special artistic desire of the occupants. Had a good supper tonight pork chops and spring onions that surely tasted good. They werent just local ones but were fresh and crisp. Every once in awhile we have a meal like that to make us forget the C-rations and corned beef hash etc. Meant to get some clothes up to the tailor today but got too busy, will try and do it in the morning. Must be sure and have them ready for my
