April 11, 1945 Italy Dear Dad and Mom:I've had my trip to Rome and enjoyed it very much. Left the sixth and came back the eleventh so I had three full days and part of two others. Even so there was so much to see and do the time was far too short. We stayed at a rest center which was very nice guess it was built for Italian soldiers perhaps but serves us just as well. The food was good at the camp and downtown there are several government supervised cafes that have good food. Think I saw about as much as any one could in the time I was there. The red Cross has several tours of the town which are the best means of seeing a lot in a short time. They furnish buses and guides and have a couple of snack bars and clubs for the fellows. Didnt buy much stuff there, only a few books about Rome and the sights. Will send them home soon. Meant to shop around a little but it seemed like every minute was filled. Saw St Peters Cathedral, Vatican City, Catacombs, St Pauls Church. Pantheon, Appian Way Colesium, couple of art museums, rooms of the roman forum, and so many other things it makes
