April 13, 1945 Italy Dear Dad and Mom: Gosh, just noticed it was friday the thirteenth, but so far I havent had any bad luck. Reckon I'd better keep my fingers crossed. Got the package with the bill fold and shampoo in it which you sent so long ago, also to V mail and an air mail in tonights mail. Thanks for all of it. The ground is too hard and dry to plant the flower seeds but if it rains soon I'll put the min, but hope I'm not around to see them bloom. Would much rather see them back in the U.S.A. I was quite shocked when I heard of the presidents death this morning. It is too bad and a bad blow to the nation with world affairs as the are today. I guess this old world is too big for any
