April 19, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: This is a fine spring evening have the door & windows open but a little fire in the stove which makes it just a bit more comfortable. Our poppies and other field flowers are still with us and do make the fields beautiful. I'm listening to a Bing Crosby program, he's always good I think. It kind of breaks into my writing tho. Sure was sorry to hear of Ernie Pyles death, one of the fellows has "Brave Men" and I want to read it. He was the G.I.s writer all right. I've had a busy day and one facing me tomorrow. Dont mind being busy tho, keeps a fellows mind occupied and you dont think of other things you'd rather be doing. No mail again tonight but tomorrow probably, one thing I know if
