April 23, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: I'll write a little before I go take my shower. Have had quite an easy day, morning was busy but this afternoon I kind of loafed. Had a pleasant surprise, yesterday noon Ralph Pixler dropped in to see me. He was returning from rest camp and came a day early so he could spend it with me. He looks fine and we had a good visit. Didnt work yesterday afternoon but had to do a little this morning but we could still talk. He left this noon for his base, I was sorry I couldnt get a plane ride for him but as luck would have it none were going to his field. I'd like to go over to his base sometime but the opportunity never seems to present itself. We seem to have acquired a pet lizard in our house so we shouldnt
