Saving...
August 1, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Got the Union this morning but there were no letters came in, reckon they'll be in this afternoon. Wasn't much in the paper as usual but I read it from corner to corner Had to get up a little early this morning to turn in my laundry and some salvage. Hope the salvage comes back soon for I turned in one pair or coveralls and my others are almost in shreds. The laundry uses pretty strong soap to get out the grease & grime and they go to pieces in a hurry. This is open house on the field big doings. Governor will speak C.O. of the field, speaks people climbing in & out of airplanes watching skilled mechanics at work, lot of hooey if you ask me. The new order is going hot & heavy lead officers posted at P.X.'s, intersections, bus stops etc. checking the G.I's for dog tags, pay books, sleeves rolled down, hats on, proper uniforms. saluting etc, etc,. All such things add to the joys of being a soldier. Each man is afraid of his immediate superior & so on up the line. Boy I'll be glad when I can get out of it
