Saving...
August 3, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Just came from the P.X., got my hair cut, bought some soap, tooth paste etc It's hardly safe to go there for you have to run a gauntlet of officers checking your uniform etc. Bought you some stockings Mom and will send them the next day or so when you get them you can pass judgement and if they are okay I'll send some more. They dont have much variety of things in the P.X. but have some nice alligator bill folds. Would you like one Dad? would sure like to send you one, sorry I cant send some cigars. There are some fine leather handbags (alligator) big ones about fourteen inches long & eight or ten high if you'd like one for Christmas Mom say so, they are quite a light shade of brown and I think real pretty. There are a bunch of fifth army men on the field now, weathered in last night. They must be mighty warm for they're wearing O.D's it's hot enough in khakis or the coolest clothes you can find. Expect they are a pretty happy bunch of boys for I imagine they will most all get discharges. Didnt get up till nearly noon today was very tired tho I couldnt sleep much for it was pretty warm. Rained about ninethirty and cooled things
