August 13, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Well we've had the noon newscast with no further news of surrender. Thought maybe last night we would know by now one way or the other. Guess I'll just have to wait, maybe not patiently but wait nevertheless. I'm trying to write this on my knee sitting in a chair with my leg propped up against a pillar, hope the results are legible. One of the other fellows beat me to the little desk. We werent very busy last night only had one engine to work on, didnt have any other new ones but I presume there will be tonight. Even read awhile finished up "Young Un" another historical novel. Didnt get my daily letter in this mornings mail so will probably get it tonight. For some reason or other there wasnt much mail this morning. As usual I was lazy this morning and didnt get up till about eleven thirty. I've been sleeping nine & a half hours most every night know know why for Im not working too hard. There is a Red Cross truck which has
