August 16, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Well I go back to work today after my two day holiday, went into town again yesterday afternoon to see the parades and people. The Chinese people had one of their own, twenty or more trucks bedecked with flags, pictures of Chian Kai chek, palm leaves etc, bands and people of all ages. The natives hadnt even showed up and were to continue their merrymaking until midnight tonight. Such a racket pounding on anything that would make a boom or a clang and singing calypso songs and chanting. Some of the craziest costumes you could imagine, faces painted with white & red paint, it was a show I never expected to see I assure you. How I wonder how long it will be now before they see fit to turn us loose. It will be a long process I'm afraid, rather looks as tho we might be stuck here for a long while. Got to see my first B-29 yesterday at close quarters. One landed here and I went over to see it, it's a huge thing and no doubt has done a good job. Would like to see one of the new jet propelled jobs that looks to me as the most practical plane yet, if they could devise something
