August 24, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Another day gone by, only moderately busy and prospects of a slow day tomorrow. We are quite a way ahead with our work so can kind of slide along easy. Fish day again and as usual it was wretched, had ham for supper so that made up for the bad meal at noon. Think the food here is the best I've had in the army on the whole. We had a barracks inspection today and they made me get rid of my shipping box wardrobe. It didnt come as a surprise tho for I've been expecting it for a couple of weeks. Didnt really need it but it was convenient. Got your Monday night letter this morning with the fair news in it, expect things begin to fold up tonight and tomorrow there wont be much left but the dirt & mess. Hope it was a success and didnt end up in the red. Seems as tho they would make a different gateway down there for they have the same trouble every year knocking down the posts. Just this minute started a regular "Thursday Fair day" downpour here, wonder if you got one as per schedule. No I havent seen a melon down here rather think, the heat & so much moisture would
