Saving...
May 2, 1945 Italy Dear Dad + Mom-- We're having a spring shower tonight and things really need it. This ground is so thoroughly dried out it would take a weeks steady rain to soak it up. My flowers haven't came up yet. don't know whether they will or not. Got a letter from Spud Ballard tonight with a sample of snap shots in it which he took when he visited me. I'll put them in this letter, I was dirty as a pig the day they were taken but with my kind of a job a guy doesn't stay clean very long. Bill fixed up an outside wash stand today, welded some bomb crates and steel matting together to hold the helmets which serve for wash basins. Just shaved out there + hurried inside to warm up, our shower didn't amount to much. In Spuds letter he said Bob Heiserman was over here someplace, gosh I'd like to see the little rascal, he's a captain I guess seems funny to think of guys you've known all your life being officers, so many of them seem like just kids to me. We've been eating out doors the past few days as they are putting a new floor in our mess hall. Don't know when we'll move
