have eaten heartily in that atmosphere but it didnt faze the natives. The streets are full of push cart peddlers who all insist you look at their wares, it's all junk and I wouldnt care to buy any of the candy & nuts they offer. The stores seem to only be open mornings so we didnt get to buy anything. About the middle of the afternoon there were rumors floating around the town Germany had surrendered and there were street parades and flags put up and church bells rung. On our ride back to camp every little town had big bon fires going and lots of celebrating. The natives were a lot more excited about it than the G.I's. Got a V-mail from you tonight and the Union last evening. Francis must be okay if Aunt Cora has heard from him again, sure glad to hear about it. Had a letter from my old friend Bouchard he has transferred over on twenty nines. He's a fellow who was with me for a couple of years. We're listening to a nation side program reckon you'll have it at home too. The time is a lot different there and here but we get all the good programs by transcription. Have heard speeches by the president, military leaders and King George is about to speak. Made a new pillow this afternoon. Got a chunk of foam rubber about a foot square and three inches thick which is used for packing some of
