May 10, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: This has been a regular scorcher of a day dont know where the thermometer sat but I'm sure it was as hot as most any summer day we had last year. Went without my shirt and sweat like a trooper. Just heard over the radio the point system pertaining to discharges, explained. I find I have quite a few more points than I realized but even so I'm sure there are many who are way up on me. We've had lots of excitement the past few days concerning our next move, when it will be, where to, furloughs in the states, change of assignment etc, etc. Of course there is nothing definite but everyone realizes our job over here is finished and how glad I am for that. Lost two men from our tent, John Booth and John Olive whom I've mentioned in previous letters. They shipped out of here, we think for the states and possibly discharges. Booth is married and has a baby and Olive is an old army man with quite a little time in. Got your good air mail letter written the twenty ninth, last evening. The clipping you sent showing the plane was taken by one of our boys, I'll bet it appeared in most every
