Saving...
May 17, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Im sitting here like old "Scattergood Baines" wiggling my toes as I write. Just came from a shower and as it's very hot havent even bothered to dress. The past few days have been scorchers, washed some underwear & sox about four oclock and they dried in about a half hour. Made up a package of junk which I've collected since I've been over here, mostly snap shots, some pamphlets on Rome & Pompeii and some cameos nothing very fancy but might be interesting. Dont know when it will reach home but I dont want to have to carry it. Just got the mail, had two V-mails from you the seventh & eighth and an air mail one from the hays mailed on the ninth with a note from Anna inclosed. Guess they are getting along okay. Was amused at what Mrs. Hay said about the chicken feed, wonder if Aunt Ethels relative would agree about it. We have quit wearing our O.D's and khaki's are the regulation uniform now for the summer. I've been wearing the pants with no shirt for I hate coveralls, we arent supposed to wear them for fatigues but until somebody hollers I'll be comfortable. Handed in our extra blankets today too so we're back down to two, had four all winter and they were none too many.
