Saving...
May 22, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: A beautiful evening calm & peaceful after a windy blustery day. It's the prettiest part about seven thirty, still light but the western sky beginning to take on color and the mountains that lavender tinge that comes with distance. Just swept out our house and got a couple of quarts of dust which sifted in this afternoon. Hope our next location doesnt have dust blowing about, and I dont think it will. We're planning a feast tonight, have crackers, sardines, soup, cheese spread, tuna, spam etc. that different guys have had from home. No one wants to carry anything with them so it's going to be eaten. My box with the pop corn in it has come and I'm going to pop some tonight. Washed some more clothes this afternoon afraid they blew full of dust but should be a bit fresher. One has to duck when he walks thru this place for there are shorts, sox, towels etc hung from coat hangers, wires etc. Miss our radio for we have no power so consequently no music. Really helps pass the evenings. Got a V-mail written the eleventh
