May 26, 1945 Bagdalio, Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Didnt expect to write again so soon but I may be here for a few days. This afternoon we were given permission to tell the works so here goes. I am in a little town of Bagdalio on the outskirts of Naples awaiting shipment to Trinidad, that island just off the north coast of South America. That doesnt sound so bad to me tho it will no doubt be unbearably hot down there. Our job will be to ferry home the fifth army and shouldnt take so long. I think it is supposed to be finished by the end of October. This is the news I said once before I was happy about for it beats going directly to the Pacific. Perhaps by the time we are through with that job the war in the Pacific will be lined up well enough so we wont have to go. Pixler is going to be on this leg of the trip so will stay here I understand. I've been stationed at a spot called Pantanella hill which is about half way between Canasa and Lanello they arent very large but maybe you can find them on a large map of Italy. You should almost be able to smell them for they are the crummiest places I've ever seen. We were in the country tho so it wasnt so bad. Have been there all
