a lot more freedom aboard. We are billeted in an Italian college which is quite nice, the bunks are nothing but boards so are kind of hard for we have only two blankets & that doesnt soften them much. I'm trying to write lying on my belly and it doesnt work so well. There is a theater & Red Cross service club which help pass the time away and we are to have passes soon. The buildings are all camoflauged (find I cant spell it) with trees, landscape etc. When we first came over last year it was raided quite often. I've seen lots of evidence of bombings etc as we came thru the country, bridges blown out, knocked out tanks etc. Tomorrow I am going to Pompeii again, our new C.O. seems a fine fellow and is doing a lot for the fellows. Has planned several tours & liberty passes for us that might not have been but for the interest he has shown. It was last August I was there so will enjoy it again. If I'm lucky perhaps I'll get another pass so I can see the town. When I get to Trinidad, mail should go thru pretty fast for it isnt far and there will be lots of planes making the hop. It is even possible there might be furloughs from there but I'm not counting on that. Dont think it is over twelve hundred miles from Miami and that sounds close after being this far away so long. Wouldnt take long for a plane to get there. We are supposed
