May 31, 1945 Naples, Italy Dear Dad & Mom: This is a cool cloudy day looks as tho it might rain at any time but its a welcome relief from the heat. Im writing this in the Red Cross writing room and it's real pleasant except for the noise of so many passing thru. Had a full day yesterday got a pass early in the morning & went into town. Caught a tour of the city in the morning and in the afternoon a bunch of us just roamed around by ourselves. In the evening we went to the opera "Carmen" sung in Italian. Of course I didnt get the words but the music was quite good and the stage settings were fine. The opera house was quite an elaborate place and we had fine seats about seven rows from the front and in the central section. Dont expect I'll get anymore passes from here. Yesterday was Jims birthday should have sent him a card but didnt have one. I didnt see any services or parades over here but no doubt there were someplace in the city. Read in this mornings "Stars & Stripes" of different ceremonies thru out Italy. I guess we now have seven battle participation stars official which gives me over the eighty five point limit but I'm not looking for
