Saving...
June 17, 1945 Dear Dad & Mom: A few more lines to let you know everything is okay with me. Havent done a thing but lay around all day, it's rained once or twice but I got in the fatigues and khakis I washed yesterday while they were almost dry. Now I fine there is to be laundry service but I only have one pair of dirty khakis & shorts so probably wont send anything. One of the boys caught a monstrosity today, it looked like a grasshopper but was at least eight inches long and proportionately thick & strong. Sure glad we dont have anything like them in Iowa. Saw a snail with about a four inch shell too guess it's the hot muggy climate that makes everything grow. Have a radio in our barracks which one of the fellows brought. Get some good programs transcriptions from the states which are sent out thru a local station. Really enjoy them. We have a good place to live, two story wooden barracks that are constructed for the greatest possible ventilation and coolness. No windows and the sides are screened & with wooden shutters to keep out the rain. So far the nights have been cool and it's grand sleeping.
