Camp California Va Feb 17th 1862 Dear father And mother I take these few lesure moments to write a few lines. I am well, and hope these few lines will find you the same. I thought I would write the good news good News good News. News from the west and south at last the glorious old flag froats over the first pease of land in America that the white man first tread in 1516 over 300 years ago, who could thought then that the sacred soil of North Carolina would be tread by traitors, but they are routed and the stars and stripes waive over the Island of Roanoke.
