The reason the rebels have been seen with in sight of Manassas and so they have sent them back to guard against their atacked but they think it is the rebels retreating from Winchester. We were on our way to alexandria to be sent down the river this is all I can write to-night. morning March 17. We have not moved yet the troops that went out last night have not got back yet there was yesterday in the afternoon 40,000 troops here. Gen Mcclellens Head quarters are here at fairfax Court House. Yestday we had Gen. Maclellens adress to the army read to us it was around thing you will get it in the paper. We are incamped in a large field by the woods. We have fixd our polons that we use to cover our guns up so as to keep the rain off and got some bronse.. So we slep like pigs last night. We are going to have a nice day
