barrel you sent. I am afraid I shall not. I have not heard from Alonzo yet nor Aunt Cornelie lately. Every thing is quite (i.e., quiet) along the lines here after such a slaughter as it was on the 11th. There is some talk of our corps goeing to Washington this winter. I hope we shall I shall come home this winter if I can get a furlough. I haven't much to write this time an can not think of much. I wrote to you Monday. We are having very nice and pleasent weather here now for the last fortnight - warm and dry. The boys have broke out laughing again so I guess I had better close this is all at present. Write when you get this and tell Edward the same so good by from you Affectionate Son C A Gates Address as before
