the true statement of that fight will never fully be known at any rate. We were not abel to carry the rebs position on Teusday. We had fought hard all day and had only drove the rebs about 11 mile but we got heavy reinforcements Tuesday night but early in the morning the rebs sent in a Flag of truce which by the laws and rules of Nations in war we were bound to respect and we did all this time tho the rebs were retreating so Thursday morning found the rebel Army all on the south side of the Potomac pretty nere. We should have anilated the whole of Lees Army on Tuesday if the traitor Miles had not surrended Harppyes Fery and enabled Jackson to reinforce Lee. Who is to blame for this the government at Washington not Gen. McClellen. They are the ones to blame why did they set such a man as Miles comand such a important post they knew him in the first bulls run but it was all a cabinet plan
