getting use to soldiering now they did not get a chance to fire a shot in the last fight. We are haveing [sic. having] awful dry weather here now. There is nothing but dust and wind day times. We have a very good camp ground and good water our old captain went home this morning. He resigned partly on acount [sic. account] of ill health and the way he has been used in our Regt by the Col comanding [sic. commanding]. We all hated to have him leave us but think he was perfectly justified in doeing [sic. doing] as he did. He has been a good and faithful captain to us he has lead us through a great many tight places
