Gainesville Va Oct 20th 1863 Dear father I received yours of thee 9th when we were at Centerville but havent had time to answer it till to day. Yours found me well I hope this may find you the same. We have been on the move for the last ten days so we havent had much time to write. We have had some pretty brisk fighting during the time we started from Culpepper the 10th early in the morning and fell back to Brandy Station there we had a quite a little fight at night our troops all cross to this side on
