Saving...
Twenty-four. March 2, 1918. My very dearest - If you were only here to snuggle close beside me, my happiness would be complete. It is beaucoup jump from a bleak room in a French caserne to the coziness of a soft chair before a billet fireplace. During the last hour I have been watching the little flames play and constructing in them dreams of you. I have been sitting here without lamplight, smoking one of the prized cigars I brought from America, enjoying to heart's content the comfort that has been lacking during most of the last three weeks. True enough, the fire was not the vigorous sort that good American wood would make; it was but the spitting blaze of tiny sappy French sticks.
