If you have occasion to communicate with Ed, I wish you would tell him that I accept his congratulations with the most sincere thanks. Of course I never clashed with him, and I haven't and bad feeling against him. I only regret that his position is such that he naturally does not feel kindly toward me. He's a man - and I think he'll eventually recover. I might paraphrase the French way of attributing all things to the war and remark, "C'est l'amour." My thanks go with yours, too, for the steameo rug. No doubt when time has healed the m. or 2. breach of diplomatic relations we shall be able to repay his kindness in that respect, - and also to show his mother how deeply we appreciate her magnanimity.
