From New York Jan 15, 1917 [note: probably 1918, as they weren't married yet in Jan. 1917] Dear Little Wifey,-- Here I am at the Sanborns' again, all cheered up by your telegram, which was waiting for me when I came. I don't know why it didn't arrive yesterday. I could have used it well. You're much more brave than I am, and you make me ashamed of myself for (shift pens) feeling the least bit downhearted about this marching off to war. I shall telegraph to you tonight to put the kibosh on any unhappiness that my more or less sobby comments in my letter of yesterday may cause.
