1/18/1918 Dear old girl, I never can begin to tell you how marvelous you are in your way of patting your husband on the back as he starts off for the great adventure. You're a great little bracer. Your telegrams and letters have been cheerfulness and courage itself. You don't need to tell me I am not leaving a "sobby, sniffly person" behind. You are not only a soldier's wife; you are a soldier and one of the bravest. No danger but I shall do my duty well if I follow the inspiration you give me. I am in great good cheer
