Cottey -- Jan. 19th, 1918. My dearest Hubby,-- I suppose this morning -- or today sometime -- you are leaving the good old U.S.A. I wish I might be there to give you a parting kiss, and tell you again how proud of you I am but I am thinking it every minute and we'll call it an "absent treatment." Last night I thought of you nearly all night and went over in my mind every wonderful minute with you. I tried to imagine what you were doing and finally decided that your good friends there would be with you to the last minute and that was comforting.
