fervor, but I have felt perfectly at ease about your crossing. I love the sea so much myself, tho of course I don't know anything about it in the winter. But I tried to imagine what you were doing and went over every little detail of my own crossings in my mind. Sometimes I tried to pretend you were with me instead of the gumps and goops that were. I know you'd be a wonderful traveling companion. I ought to know! Didn't I go clear to Baltimore from Washington with yo'all? And didn't I find everything and everybody sordid and commonplace after you left? I hope you can read this. I
