Number Nine February 5, 1918. Beloved, - Real billets at last! In this town of about 4,000 all the American troops are living with the people. Our coming has placed upon the quaint stone walls the marks strange to the populace of "2 officers, 40 men" here, another figure there. Zim and I had the luck to draw a cozy little room with two beds set in curtained niches, plenty of furniture, and electric light. The government pays for the room; we pay for the care of it. Our hostess is an old, nice little woman who is all alone. She has lost her only son in the war. Our room contains a half dozen
