Captain Bridges stopped me on the street, inquired kindly after you and then asked whether I would go with him to a picture show Tuesday evening. I looked rather shocked so he said, "If you don't feel that you could go with me, I'd be glad to take our mother or any of your friends along." Ruby kicked me and looked rather appealingly at me so I said that it might be arranged for us to go but that Mama would not be here. I said I'd see; and when I suggested taking Ruby he frowned a little but I didn't think anything of it. Today Ruby saw him down town and remembered the "date." Immediately she said, "Oh say! Have mother and I a date with you tonight?" He very hesitatingly said that it was cold and we couldn't go anywhere but to a movie, and perhaps some other night would do. Ruby came tearing home and told me, so I grabbed her under my arm and took her down to Mitchel for dinner. By the way,
