diameter. This morning after much fuming and fussing we got another fire built. I can take to myself the credit for building the only fires that have lived long. The other fellows are willing enough, but most of them are handicapped by not having "roughed it" enough to know how to nurse a fire along. I wish you could have seen one of my comrades, a short, fat chap, heir to a modest little fortune of five millions working in his pajamas this morning trying to start the fire. His idea was to put a lot of small green sappy sticks on some paper. I lay in bed quietly enjoying the way he was carrying on until he had given up in disgust; then I got up and contrived with pine and kerosene to get a blaze started.
