the British it was the French who finally stopped the German advance and held the line solidly against all further attacks. It's one of the most incomprehensible things! To look at the ordinary French "poilu" shuffling along the street or road you would not believe he could be much of a fighter. Talk with him and he'll probably tell you he's had all he wants of war. But when the order comes for the blue battalions to advance to the attack they do it with superb dash and tenacity. And the German doesn't win. I wish I could hear friend wife's musical sketch. I am proud of her. I always have been anyway, but I'm all puffed up at hearing
