Forty-nine. Conger Reynolds 2nd Lt., AGD April 9, 1918 Dear lovin' sweetheart,- Again I've done my day's work for our uncle Sam and am free to talk to my wife. "Howdy, Mrs. Reynolds," I say, lookin' at the beautiful person in the frame on my table. Not a blink of those deep brown eyes, not a movement of those wonder laden lips. Well - whether you'll talk to me or not I will have my say. Do you mind if I smoke? No? Thank you. You always were indulgent about that. It's my pipe this time. You don't know it do you? I always avoided the pipe, because tobacco however sweet is not the same to the innocent bystander when it comes from a pipe that it is when otherwise consumed. A pipe
