well. The big chief took the trouble to send word over the other day that he was well pleased with the way I was handling the added responsibilities he had recently entrusted to me. So you see marriage is "making a man of me." I'm a powerfully fortunate man, honey. It's not all fun being plunked down here five thousand miles from home and seeing all this hellish business of war; but I have you. I'd be here if I didn't have you - and how much worse that would be! Life would be utterly empty then. What should I have to put beautiful memories and dreams into my head to combat the nightmare of it? What should I have to look forward to when it's over? You can't know how the wonder of knowing that you love me, that we belong to each other for always, continues to awe
