6/17/43 Dearest, I will give you a brief outline of where I have been here in Africa. I don't think the censor will strike it out now. I landed [censored] Feb 20 stayed there about 5 weeks then [censored] took a boat [censored] (was at [censored]) then by truck [censored] then to Gafsa near where the battle of El Guettar was fought, we arrived there right after the battle and polised up the debris left on the field From there we went to the front lines at Sed. ofense. Was on front all the time till the war was over I was at Matern, Kerryville, Brigerta Sure was glad when it was over. Hope I don't see any more. I haven't got a letter for three months, have traveled around too much for the mail to catch up. it will come better now that I have a permanent outfit. Have a good buddy. he is from Georgia I am No. 2 gunner on a machine gun squad. Hope everything is O.K. at home Love Lloyd
