Fort Dodge, IA August 10, 1942 Dear Frances, I'll answer your letter this evening so you will know what I can do. Got my orders from the Navy last week. I'm to report at Des Moines at 8:00 a.m. on August 20. That means I'll have to get my things from home and my orders and transportation from the local office and leave here on the 19th in the afternoon. So about the latest I could leave Cedar Rapids would be on the Tuesday afternoon (18th), unless bus and train schedules have been changed lately.
