that got ripe; 12 qts of apple pickles - all I had sugar for. I had "hoarded" my own sugar rations and took it with me to Iowa & used that for the apples. They had not tried to get any sugar for canning as Tom did not think there would be anyone to do the work, and did not want to go through the red tape of getting it. Maurice & Tom (mostly Maurice) had previously canned a lot of apples without sugar, so they have a lot of sour sauce on hand. Maurice is at Norfolk, Va; but expects to be moved somewhere else. Perhaps he has written to you. I do not have his address. If you do, you might let me have it. We got the threshing done while I was home. They started to fill silo the Saturday before I left - just Tom, 'Rasmus & Dad. It is too hard for them but Tom did not think mama could cook for any more. I don't see how she does it for them. She is so thin - thinner
