petty officers - and they had a time to pronounce some of the names. They seem to be Russian or Bohemian or both maybe. The men don't look like foreigners, however. We graduated from boot camp - we wear leggings during detention so we're known as boots - this afternoon we all dressed in white and passed in review for the brass hats. They didn't flunk us, at least we haven't heard of it. We've had enough drill so that we can manage a rifle on the march. It was a hot, close afternoon until it rained about 5 o'clock, 1700 navy time. Suppose you got the things I sent just before I left home. There were two letters and a photograph. Bet you put the latter in a strong box in the bank. It is impossible to find out how long we'll be in training and when and how much time off will be given. Some say only five days. That isn't enough to get very far on. Transportation is too
