817-19 St S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 20, 1945 Dearest, In the midst of all the confusion and delays as to when and what is going to be possible for us, I thought I'd indulge us to a note. Let us call it a love letter. I can think of nothing more appropriate than for a wife to send a love letter to her husband. The trouble with letters is that they are only a collection of words trying inadequately to express great feelings and ideals. The same words expressed orally when we are together get the benefit of tone, facial expression, all the other characteristics of live humans, to convey the fuller meaning. You have given me affection and love and understanding. Your caring and your concern
