person and she'd do anything for a friend. She thinks she can't turn Chas out to grass while he is in service, yet she never agreed to wait for him and has often told him she'd never marry him. She thinks that he hopes that with time and effort he will win. I do not know, but I told her regardless of her wanting to keep Chas from being hurt, he was still in the States and the sooner he knew he had a rival the better. I think Betty considered Chas kind and persistent but I always agreed with you that she couldn't have love for him and be so sharp to him. Especially when she isn't sharp to others as her general disposition. Then we discussed how to get her out of Miss Taft's offer. I served
