Paper ribbons and scraps littered the streets. How every one got there so soon, and how they milled around is a whole batch of mysteries. The crowds were happy, and orderly even if crowded every where. There was no noticeable intoxication. All taverns closed at once and state liquor store rations were issued about ten days ago, so many cupboards were "dry." I wonder where you were tonight. If you were in France, the news came in the middle of the night. Did the troops get up and put on any street parades then? My brother said they did in 1918 at Camp Dodge at three in the morning.
