817-19 St SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa August 15, 1945 Dearest, The day is about over. It is eleven-twenty-five and I am seated at the end of the walnut table in the dining room. Ardie & Dora left just a few minutes ago, and then Leone and Jack left. today I heard the King of England give his speech. The cessation of gas, fuel oil, and canned fruit and vegetable rationing was announced. A round-table discussion of unemployment problems and reconversion plans from officials was also an interesting broadcast. We have not suffered at all from the war except for the separation from, and the worry, for our loved ones. I am glad to see restrictions relaxed because of that need to keep
