Saving...
Ray alone across from them. I served tomato juice, pork chops and escalloped potatoes, frozen peas, pineapple cottage cheese salad, and Sunshine Cake for dessert. Also radishes, pickles and bread. I didn't get anything else done today but feed people, still I read and did miscellaneous things too. I didn't hurry nor feel overworked. I only wished for one thing that being that you could be here to be the head of your home. We had a fireplace fire with candlelight from white candles on the mantel. I do all this describing so you can know what I did. I think from your letters that knowing little things like this makes stuff better for you alone there. If it should only make you more lonely, then I'll not continue such details. Just write your desires, honey. Hazel said tonight after Steeles were gone that she remembered my saying last year that I never thought the saying of a few words like the marriage ceremony could make so much difference in how you looked at and felt about things. She said she thought about that and wondered, not understanding or accepting it. Now she knew and understood. They said Dr. Bready didn't make the nice details and attention over them that Mr. Hodgson did over us, but he did all right. I'm glad they appreciated Mr. Hodgson and noticed things like that. Mr. Hodgson has exerted a big influence in my education and thoughts. He helped on making ideals practical and realistic. He is human and understands, and still can point out bigger things in a way that makes them real and important.
