817 - 19 St S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa Janurary 4, 1942 [1943] Dearest, Three letters today! That's a big surprise after I'd received one every day. They got accumulated because of no deliveries on Sunday I guess. I will reread them probably more than usual. They are good - all your letters are. The long one you wrote on Monday after Christmas surely made me feel good. But these are just as good if not quite as long. The ones you wrote on the eve of our anniversary & on the day were great. The other one was Tuesday's letter (and I got Wed on Sat) and nice too even if it did get behind schedule in arriving. No wife could ask for more than you have offered to me, all the love possible to give. If you are so well satisfied with our first year together, then we are indeed a fortunate couple, for I feel the same way. With the whole first year as a perfect record we have a good foundation upon which to build a happy and long life together. And we both look at it that way so we can be sure neither is disappointed. I didn't know what richness there could be in marriage and I feel we've both had a good glimpse of its possibilities now. So, we have a start now for an increasingly good life together. Like you, I think our life can continue as good as the start and will enrich with our maturity. It is lots colder now with well below zero as the forecast. It has quit snowing and the wind which blew today has died down. There is a glase of ice under the snow so that travel in town is treacherous. I have a good fire going so it is comfortable. I had
