323 Chestnut Street Roselle, New Jersey June 10, 1943 Dear Laura, It's June, but the spring has been cold and wet. In spite of that, New Jersey has been beautiful. There are numerous flowered trees that make any wet day radiant with color. Roses are bountiful, and all sorts of bushes and flowers fill yards around us. And victory gardens can be seen on every unused patch of soil. Charlie is enjoying his work at Bakelite. They have a six-day working week now. So Charlie has little time for himself. His deferment is up July 3d. The company has written a request for another deferment, since it considers him essential in their war work. It's in the hands of the local board now. Draft status is an unknown
