HDQ C-D 26th U.S.N. Const. Batt. Fleet Post Office San Fransisco, Calif. Sept 18, 1943 Dear Frances, Haven't heard from you for some time. Of course the same doesn't apply to me - much. Was glad to know that Lloyd made out O.K. in Africa. Wrote him a line shortly after I received your last letter, (5) which was slow coming. I've wondered how much he may write of his activities and location. Perhaps more than we can from here. It is of course more pleasant for you know where he has been after he comes out all right than to think of where he will go next. Haven't heard whether the same Americans went from africa to Sicily and then Italy or not. Perhaps they are relieved whenever, possible. Well, it's just one of those tough jobs which has to be done regardless of personal consequence. I'm sure he is doing a good job of it. I imagine you are plenty busy with your work and with keeping up with the war, especially since you have deep and direct personal concern in each development. I surely hope all reports are favorable, if not good.
