Saving...
No, I didn't draw a permanent K.P. job. I was promoted to third class cook, which is about the only way to keep from drawing such an assignment. The work isn't so tough. We work half a day every day which really is on one day and off the next. The rest of the time we manage to amuse ourselves somehow. There is some reading material available. Since the weather and the ocean are always warm, we can go swimming or, if we wish, just park under a cocoanut tree. The last letter from home reports every-one as usual. Seems they manage to do the work one way or another. Looks like there is no end to the struggle. I understand the Minnesota boys are all alone this year too. So far I've not received your number 4 letter. Perhaps you mentioned things or asked questions which I have consequently ignored. Are you still at the same job? How much driving is required? Are service men on furlough allowed ration cards for food, gas, etc.? There isn't any prospect of my needing any. Just wondered how the matter was managed. Everything is as usual here. I remain well. I know you are busy and are doing the best you can under the circumstances. Let me know how things go. Love, Maurice Maurice Hutchison SC 3/C
